Austin

This past January me and my three friends Adam, Shannon and Christy decided to take a trip to Austin, TX. Adam and Shannon who are recently married were moving to Guatemala in February so as a goodbye before they left we all went to eat our way through Austin. All of us being "foodies" it was the ideal trip (and I gained 5lb), however the interesting part is that Adam and Shannon are vegetarians and I have a particular love of meat. But we all took turns going to each others dream food spots, making it one of the best weekends I have ever had.
Our first night out walking to 6th St
Shannon and Adam at the Hickory st Bar and Grill
6th St
On Saturday morning we all got up early so I could go get in line at Franklin Barbecue, it is the most amazing barbecue I have every had but you must be in line at lest 2 1/2 hours before they open at 11a.m. But it is all apart of the experience, everyone brings a cooler full of beers and sodas to share, you chat and make new friends (on this day in the rain). It was an awesome experience, great food, and my wonderful vegetarian friends sat with me while i stuff several pounds of meet into my mouth.
The amazing Franklin himself!
My BBQ plate, oh yes be jealous!
In heaven!
After Franklin's we headed off to a farmers market in down town Austin. It was there that i found one of the most amazing teas i have ever had, pomegranate green tea with lavender!
Beautiful vegetables

Christy found a vegan cup cake at the market.

Then we headed to Congress St to try out all the food trucks and do a little shopping.

Adam and Shannon

I really love them all.
Shannon got new earings

Cupcake truck!

Vegetarian hot dog.
After a food hangover on Saturday we decided the only way to cure it was to go to Gourdoughs Sepciality Doughnuts. It started a whole new food hangover for our 4 hour drive home but it was worth it.
Peanut butter and jelly doughnut.

My favorite the maple bacon doughnut!
Shannon could not wait to dive into the five doughnuts we bought.
Yep, between us all we devoured them.

So sad they are gone.
To finish off our trip we went to go visit Adam's artist friend Drew who lives in Austin. He was very gracious and showed us around his home and studio. All of us left with a piece of art (and i plan to buy more)

All together is was one of the best weekend trips I have taken, to be able to spend time with three of my favorite people in one of my favorite city's was a blessing. And the best way we could say bye to Adam and Shannon as they set off to make their life in Guatemala.
